The greatest obstacle facing footprint evidence is that hoaxing is not merely possible; it is historically documented.

The most famous case involves Ray Wallace, the road contractor associated with the 1958 Bluff Creek footprint discoveries. Fraud is only one source of uncertainty. Genuine animal tracks can also be misinterpreted.
