How Newspapers Turned Tracks into a Modern Monster

The footprints might have remained a local curiosity had they not reached the press. After repeated discoveries, Jerry Crew contacted journalist Andrew Genzoli of the Humboldt Times. Genzoli reported on the tracks and helped popularise the term “Bigfoot”, which quickly became attached to the unknown maker of the prints. After the death of logging contractor Ray Wallace in 2002, members of his family displayed large carved wooden feet and claimed that Wallace had created the famous Bluff Creek tracks as a practical joke.
