What Bigfoot DNA Tests Have Really Found
Hair and tissue claims have repeatedly faced laboratory testing, and the published results have matched known animals rather than Bigfoot.

Introduction
Modern DNA testing offers one of the clearest ways to evaluate Bigfoot claims. Unlike eyewitness reports, footprints or blurry photographs, hair, tissue, blood and other biological samples can be analysed in laboratories and compared directly with known species. If Bigfoot were a real, undiscovered large primate, DNA evidence would provide a path to scientific confirmation. Instead, the most significant published investigations have repeatedly found that purported Bigfoot samples belong to ordinary animals already known to science. These results have become one of the strongest reasons why mainstream zoologists remain unconvinced by Bigfoot claims.[PMC]pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.govGenetic analysis of hair samples attributed to yeti, bigfoot and…by BC Sykes · 2014 · Cited by 49 — We have used rigorous decontami…
Why Hair Samples Matter
What Major DNA Studies Reported
The most influential systematic study was led by geneticist Bryan Sykes and published in 2014 in Proceedings of the Royal Society B. Researchers collected dozens of hair samples attributed to Bigfoot, Yeti and other alleged unknown primates from around the world. After screening and DNA sequencing, they identified the species origin of the usable samples.[PMC+2Royal Society Publishing]pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.govGenetic analysis of hair samples attributed to yeti, bigfoot and…by BC Sykes · 2014 · Cited by 49 — We have used rigorous decontami…
The headline result was straightforward: the samples did not support the existence of an unknown primate. With the exception of two unusual Himalayan samples that initially appeared closest to ancient polar-bear DNA, the analysed hairs matched known animals. Subsequent discussion suggested even those Himalayan specimens were more likely explained by regional bear populations rather than a mysterious primate.[PMC+2Retraction Watch]pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.govGenetic analysis of hair samples attributed to yeti, bigfoot and…by BC Sykes · 2014 · Cited by 49 — We have used rigorous decontami…

Why Known-Animal Matches Weaken the Claim
The significance of these DNA results lies not in proving that Bigfoot cannot exist, but in testing evidence that was specifically presented as coming from Bigfoot. When a hair sample believed to be from an unknown creature turns out to belong to a bear, horse or raccoon, the sample ceases to support the Bigfoot hypothesis.[PMC]pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.govGenetic analysis of hair samples attributed to yeti, bigfoot and…by BC Sykes · 2014 · Cited by 49 — We have used rigorous decontami…
This pattern has repeated often enough to create a consistent evidential trend. Instead of producing a growing collection of unexplained biological specimens, laboratory testing has repeatedly reduced mystery samples to ordinary wildlife. Every confirmed match strengthens the likelihood that at least some reported Bigfoot traces result from misidentification rather than discovery of a new species.[Time+2Mongabay News]time.combigfoot dna bear animalDNA Study Proves Bigfoot Never ExistedJul 2, 2014 — DNA Study Proves Bigfoot Never Existed… The samples, the investigators found…
Scientists also note an asymmetry in the evidence. A single verified DNA sequence from an unknown large primate would be extraordinarily important and would attract immediate attention from zoologists worldwide. Yet decades of collecting hairs, tissue fragments and other biological traces have not produced such a result. Instead, the published record overwhelmingly points toward known mammals already living in the environments where Bigfoot sightings occur.[Royal Society Publishing+2PMC]royalsocietypublishing.org2014Genetic analysis of hair samples attributed to yeti, bigfoot and other anomalous primatesProc…
What the DNA Record Currently Shows
Taken together, Bigfoot DNA investigations provide one of the clearest examples of how cryptozoological claims can be tested scientifically. The major published analyses have not uncovered genetic evidence for an undiscovered North American ape or hominin. Rather, they have identified bears, dogs, wolves, horses, cattle, deer, raccoons, porcupines, humans and other recognised species.[Knight Science Journalism @MIT+2Time]ksj.mit.eduies; four were from horses; four were from wolves or dogs; one was a perfect match to a human hair; and the others came…Read more…
For researchers evaluating Bigfoot evidence, that outcome matters because biological samples are among the few forms of evidence capable of settling the question directly. So far, the DNA record has repeatedly converted alleged Bigfoot traces into ordinary zoological identifications rather than evidence for a hidden primate.[PMC+2Royal Society Publishing]pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.govGenetic analysis of hair samples attributed to yeti, bigfoot and…by BC Sykes · 2014 · Cited by 49 — We have used rigorous decontami…
